Hiking concept almost complete

Shortly before completion

In the southern district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, a cross-municipal hiking trail concept provides more orientation and less confusion. Twelve municipalities – with the exception of Jachenau – have joined forces to develop a standardized signage system. Thanks to financial support from the Leader program, the project, which is also valid across district borders, is nearing completion.

Green Solutions: Planning with expert knowledge

A key partner in the project was the Green Solutions planning office, which laid the foundations for the new signage. Using e-bikes and on foot, the employees recorded the entire 1137-kilometer network of trails. 969 kilometers of these were included in the planning, while parallel routes were reduced in favor of nature and species protection. Spa director Brita Hohenreiter emphasized: “One path is enough – that protects flora and fauna and gives locals more freedom.”

New standard signage

Signs in three categories were installed at a total of 2004 locations:

  • DAV milling signs (633 pieces),
  • Intermediate signposts (1293 pieces),
  • Destination signposts with pictograms (1595 pieces).

The signs have a uniform design and are clearly recognizable. Additional information, such as the meaning of the pictograms, is available online and in flyers.

Focus on cooperation and quality

The implementation, divided into two phases, was coordinated by Lenggries (2018-2022) and Bad Tölz (2022-2024). A total of around 727,000 euros was invested, of which 305,000 euros was funded. Mayor Ingo Mehner praised the inter-municipal cooperation: “Guests expect a well-maintained hiking network with clear signposting. The Tölzer Land can now assert itself as an attractive hiking region – even in competition with strong neighbors.”

The new concept makes hiking in the Südlandkreis district easier, more nature-friendly and more uniform.
